Input, process, output

Every computer follows the same simple pattern:

Input -> Process -> Output

• Input: you type, click or speak.
• Process: the processor follows instructions.
• Output: the screen shows a result or a speaker plays a sound.

Hardware and software

Hardware is the parts you can touch, such as the keyboard, screen and processor. Software is the programs that tell the hardware what to do.
